the legendary INTENSE performer Jacques Brel, doing his "Jef" (Live concert 1964, B&W image, Dutch subtitles)In case people don't know : Jacques Brel was a Belgian singer who sang in French (and also a little in Dutch), had tremendous success in France and French speaking audiences. He wrote unforgettable songs, both music and lyrics, and was a brilliant performer. His most famous song is "Ne me quitte pas", covered in several other languages, like in English as "If you go away" by many artists as Frank Sinatra, etc."Jef" is the name of a friend, the song is about friendship.

I still cannot believe how much this man can make me smile and cry at the same time and I don't even speak french, I can only understand like 20%....the translation does the rest : )( WHY? Why isn't there art like this any more and all we get is the crap on the radio??! In every country I've been to in this world.... it's always crap on the radio : ( ALWAYS!

@souricette68 c'est un effet de surface. Je ne sais pas l'importance de mots comme les siens, qui ne sont pas d'un irrespect intolérable. En tout cas il y a une chose dont je suis sûr, si tu le crois misogyne, tu connais mal sa vie. Peut-être même que si ses paroles sont souvent ambigues sur le sujet, c'est parce qu'il respecte énormément les femmes, voir trop pour ne pas en souffrir même.

What harm is there in downplaying the other sex when you are conforting a same sex friend who got dumped. Besides, the french fries, the mussles, going to america and the prostitutes are what brel thinks will confort jef. Nothing is endorced

Et , aussi, il parle de putes, parce qu´une grande partie du problème a été causé par une femme. Il faut donc compenser avec d´autres femmes...Il n´y a pas, c´est vrai beaucoup de consieeration envers le genre féminin dans cette chanson. C´est un fait. Pour le sentiment d´amour envers une femme, il faut aller vers "ne me quitte pas", et c´est un amour pas vraiment heureux.Y en a-t-il?

Est-ce que manger des frites (et des moules), est une pratique triste, aussi, Souricette ? Il est vrai que Brel n´était pas au summum du féminisme. Mais qui était vraiment féministe en 64 et Même en mai 68 ? Par ailleurs il faut remarquer que, comme Brassens avec les copains d´abord, cette amitié, chez Brel est fondamentale.
